Do you have a journal? Do you have tarot cards? If not, thats ok. Do you have favourite cards? I’m going to show you how to use them to unlock some serious self discovery through journaling!
Think of tarot cards as a mirror reflecting back at you. They help you understand your feelings, motivations, and hidden potential. Journaling with them takes that reflection even deeper. It’s like having a conversation with your subconscious! You’ll boost your intuition, become way more aware of your emotions, and learn so much about yourself.

What wisdom have I gained from time spent alone, and what do I still seek?
This card is all about looking inward and finding your own inner guidance. So, our first prompt is:
Think about times you’ve been by yourself. Maybe you were just chilling in your room, or maybe you went for a walk alone. What did you realize about yourself during those times? What questions are still bubbling in your mind? Explore the value of introspection and solitude in your journey. What have you learned about yourself when you’re away from the noise and distractions? And what are you still hoping to discover? Don’t be afraid, journaling is a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings!
Just write whatever comes to mind in your journal, there are no wrong answers! This is all about understanding yourself a little bit better.

When has a sudden change forced me to rebuild, and how did I grow from it?
This prompt is inspired by the Tower card. The Tower in Tarot often represents unexpected change, disruption, and sometimes, even chaos! It can feel scary, but it’s often a necessary event that clears away the old to make way for the new.
So, think about a time in your life when something unexpected happened. Maybe a friendship ended, you moved to a new place, or a plan totally fell through. What was it like going through that? What did you learn about yourself? And most importantly, how did you rebuild from that experience? What positive changes came out of it? Really dig deep and explore those feelings.

Where in my life do I need to make a heartfelt choice, and what values guide me?
Are there any areas in your life where you’re facing a decision? Big or small, it doesn’t matter. Maybe it’s about a friendship, a hobby, a subject to study, or even how you spend your time. Choices are everywhere!
What’s key here is the heartfelt part. This isn’t just about picking the most logical option. It’s about connecting with what truly matters to you.
Which brings us to values. What’s really important to you? Honesty? Kindness? Adventure? Creativity? Independence?
Think about values, and how do they impact that choice?
When you feel confused about a decision, it can be super helpful to try to understand what’s most important to you.
Grab your journal and really explore these questions:
- What decision are you facing?
- What are your core values?
- How can you make a choice that aligns with those values and feels true to you? Think about the long-term implications, not just the immediate gratification.

What part of my past do I need to forgive to fully rise into my future?
Think about that for a moment. What situation, what relationship, what mistake, what part of your past is still holding you back? What weighs on you silently?
This prompt is all about self forgiveness. It’s about acknowledging the past, learning from it, and releasing it so you can move forward unburdened.
Often, we hold onto things, resentment, regret, guilt, that prevent us from reaching our full potential. These feelings can act like anchors, keeping us stuck where we are.
Journaling about this allows you to honestly assess those lingering feelings. To see if these feelings are still valid, or if they are based on a younger version of yourself.
How might forgiving someone or yourself, change your perspective on the present? What opportunities might open up if you let go of the past?
Don’t rush this. Take your time. Be honest with yourself. This isn’t about condoning harmful actions, it’s about releasing the emotional grip they have on you.
Think about what a future free from the weight of this past experience looks like. How does that future you feel? What are they capable of?

What losses or disappointments am I still holding onto, and what remains to be grateful for?
Really think about it. What situations, big or small, are still weighing you down? Maybe you didn’t make the team, a friendship fizzled out, or you didn’t get the grade you wanted. Acknowledge those feelings, it’s okay to feel sad or frustrated.
After you’ve identified what you’re dwelling on, shift your focus. What did you learn from that experience? What good things are still present in your life? Even in tough situations, there are often things to be thankful for. Maybe you learned a valuable lesson, strengthened another relationship, or discovered a new strength within yourself.
This prompt is about finding balance. It’s about acknowledging your feelings, processing them, and then actively seeking out the good. It’s about not letting disappointment overshadow everything else.

What does personal success look like for me, and how can I celebrate my growth?
Think about success for a moment. Forget what society, your friends, or even your family tell you success should look like. What does it mean to you?
Maybe it’s mastering a new skill, finishing that song you’ve been working on, finally understanding that tricky math concept, or even just consistently making your bed every day. Personal success is unique to you.
The second part of the prompt is just as important: and how can I celebrate my growth? Often, we’re so focused on achieving the next goal that we forget to acknowledge how far we’ve already come.
Think about meaningful ways you can pat yourself on the back. It doesn’t have to be a huge party. Maybe it’s treating yourself to your favorite snack, taking a relaxing bath, or simply acknowledging your progress in your journal.
The Nine of Pentacles is all about independence, self-worth, and recognizing the abundance you already have in your life. This prompt is designed to help you tap into those feelings.

What ideas or truths am I keen to explore, and what a holding me back from starting?
What topics are you super curious about right now? Maybe it’s learning a new language, understanding a complex scientific concept, exploring a different culture, or starting a creative project like writing a song or designing a game.
The Page of Swords is all about curiosity, a thirst for knowledge, and the thrill of new beginnings. It represents that initial spark of an idea.
Now, the second part of the question is just as important: What’s holding you back?
Is it fear of failure? Do you worry about not being good enough? Is it a lack of time or resources? Are you unsure where to even begin?
Really dig deep and be honest with yourself. Sometimes, the biggest obstacle is simply our own self-doubt.

What burdens am i carrying that are no longer nine to hold?
What are you holding onto that’s weighing you down? It could be anything, maybe you’re taking on too much responsibility at work, feeling pressured to please everyone, or stuck dealing with a problem that isn’t really yours to solve.
This prompt is all about recognizing what you don’t need to be carrying. It’s about identifying those extra weights you’ve been lugging around, sometimes without even realizing it.
When you journal on this, really dig deep. Ask yourself:
- What specifically is making me feel stressed or overwhelmed?
- Is this something I actually need to be doing?
- Who could I ask for help, or who should really be handling this?
- What would it feel like to let go of this burden?

How do honor my emotions and intuition without becoming overwhelmed by them?
Let’s break this down. Think about honoring your emotions. That means acknowledging them, accepting them, and listening to what they’re telling you. All emotions are valid, even the uncomfortable ones like sadness or anger.
Dont forget about the second part is just as important: without becoming overwhelmed. This is about creating healthy boundaries. You don’t want your emotions to control you, right? You want to be in the driver’s seat.
So, when you sit down to journal, really think about these questions. How can you create space for your feelings without letting them consume you? What does nurturing yourself look like when you’re feeling emotional?
- What does nurturing my emotions look like?
- Am I setting healthy boundaries?
- How can I acknowledge my intuition?
Maybe it’s setting aside time for self care, like listening to music, taking a bath, talking to a friend, or even just spending some time alone. Maybe it’s recognizing when you need to step away from a situation that’s triggering you. It could also be about learning to trust your intuition, that gut feeling that guides you.

Where in my life am I called to take bold action, and what fuels they fire?
This prompt, inspired by the Knight of Wands, is all about identifying areas where you feel a strong pull to do something, to take a leap, to really go for it.
What are you truly passionate about? What really gets you fired up? Is there a project you’ve been putting off? A dream you’ve been hesitant to chase? Maybe it’s standing up for something you believe in.
The Knight of Wands is all about bold action and passionate pursuit. So, in your journal, really explore what kind of action feels right for you right now. What’s one small or not so small step you can take?
Now, what fuels that fire is super important. What’s the why behind your desire? Is it a deep personal conviction? A burning desire to create something amazing? Understanding what fuels you will keep you going, even when things get tough.

What limiting beliefs are keeping me trapped, and how can I free myself?
What’s holding you back right now? Maybe it’s a fear of failing, a belief that you’re not good enough, or a worry about what other people might think. These are your limiting beliefs.
These beliefs can feel like real obstacles, like actual swords keeping you in place. But here’s the thing: they’re often just stories we tell ourselves.
The Eight of Swords isn’t necessarily about actual, physical danger. More often than not, it symbolizes the mental blocks and fear-based narratives we create.
Okay, back to the journal. Once you identify those limiting beliefs, the really important part is figuring out how to break free. How do you challenge those negative thoughts?
Ask yourself:
- Is this belief really true? What’s the evidence?
- What would I do if I didn’t believe this?
- What’s one small step I can take to prove this belief wrong?
Maybe you’re afraid of public speaking. A small step might be volunteering to answer a question in front of a group of people. Maybe you think you’re bad at art. Try doodling for just five minutes a day, focusing on the process, not the result.
The power of this exercise is in recognizing these limiting beliefs and actively challenging them. It’s about taking control and realizing you have the power to rewrite your story.
